A2 MEDIA STUDIES – G324 ADVANCED PORTFOLIO
The Advanced Portfolio is the internally
assessed coursework unit that is worth 50% of your A2 grade. For this module you will produce a media
production portfolio, comprising:
Ø a main and two ancillary products
Ø a presentation of your research and planning
Ø an evaluation of the project.
The media portfolio will be produced
through a combination of two or more of the following media
Ø Video
Ø Print
Ø Web-based
Ø Audio
Your
brief.
A promotion package for a new, debut artist
that includes the debut CD album cover and a music promo video for the debut
single, together with two of the
following three options:
·
website homepage for the band
·
a digipak for the album’s release (minimum 5 panels)
·
a magazine advertisement for the album’s release.
The presentation of your research,
planning, construction and evaluation will be through connected blog pages and
must include a range of media forms and presentational devices such as:
Ø A presentation using slideshow software such as PowerPoint, Prezi,
Tumblr, emaze, Voicethread etc.
Ø A vlog
Ø A podcast
Ø A video presentation with audio commentary
Ø Website presentation, such as Wix.com
The presentation of your research and
planning must be presented through a
range of multi-media posts and be clearly evidenced on your blog. A full list
of what is required for the research and planning tasks is posted on out G324
Planning Blog.
You are required to keep regular blog
updates that record your decisions and revisions, with explanations as to how
and why your project is taking shape.
This should include; photographs of locations, actors, costumes, props,
make up, on set photographs etc. in support of your comments.
The Evaluation
This is not a written essay and the potential to achieve top
marks should be exploited through the use of images, audio, video and links to
online resources. You should aim to use
a range of digital media formats in the presentation of your responses to the
following four questions:
Ø In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Ø How effective is the combination
of your main product and ancillary texts?
Ø What have you learned from your
audience feedback?
Ø How did you use media
technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Whatever
form your evaluation responses take, these again must be uploaded onto your blog and clearly displayed for
marking. It is essential that your blog is easily navigable and that you have
clearly identified the different stages of Research and Planning, Construction
and Evaluation through linked blog pages.
Work should be posted in date order, with most recent first.
Attendance for all
lessons remains compulsory and any unauthorized absences will need to be
supported with written documentation. We
expect you all to work to the highest possible standard and to ultimately
produce an advanced production that clearly demonstrates your knowledge and
understanding of the major theories covered during the course. Your aim will be to produce a folder of work
that is simply the best media work you have ever done and to submit this work
for assessment and for exhibition at the end of the course.
We hope you enjoy this final production module. Good luck.
